Paintings

Paintings are treated in accordance with conservation principles of reversibility, meaning that all modifications to painted works can be reversed, leaving the original unaltered. We accept paintings using tempera, oil, and acrylic paints, on a variety of mediums, including wood panel, canvas, and paperboard.

  • Cleaning: Removal of surface dirt, dust, fingerprints, old or damaged varnish, and previous restorations

  • Stabilization: Repair tears and punctures. Consolidate to strengthen the paint layer and canvas. Flatten, reline and stretch distorted materials.

  • Restoration: Fill any image loss, perform in-painting (or retouching), and apply new varnish for protection.
